Software Status Bulletin
78xx Driver Software 7890A
Known Problem Report as of May 18 2010 9:55AM
Preface
-------------------------
This Software Status Bulletin (SSB) documents all known problems in the software
product designated above. The SSB is derived from Known Problem Reports (KPR)
which result from user problems that have been classified as documentation
problems or software defects. When a KPR is written, an identifying number is
assigned to it, and the KPR is added to the next edition of the SSB.
User inputs that have been classified as Enhancement Requests are not documented in the SSB. User problems that have been submitted, but that have not been classified by the time the SSB is generated are not included in the SSB.
How to use the SSB
-------------------------
When you experience a problem with a product, first check this SSB to see if the
problem has been reported already, and if there is a temporary workaround
available for the problem, or if the problem has already been fixed by a new
revision. If the problem is not listed in this SSB then you may wish to report
it to the Response Center or to your field support representative.
To determine if your problem is documented in this SSB, first look in the "Keyword Index" section of the SSB. Under each keyword is a listing of one-line descriptions of related KPRs. If any of these sound like yours, locate the KPR # in the "Known Problem Reports" section of the SSB, and read the full KPR. The KPRs in the "Known Problem Reports" section are sorted by KPR #.
There are two sections in the SSB:
Keyword Index: This index is categorized by keyword. For each KPR there is a
brief description and a KPR #. A KPR may be associated with more than one
keyword.
Known Problem Reports: This section contains KPRs, with all the available information relevant to the problem. KPRs in this section are sorted by KPR #.

7890A with ALS. If an ALS error, occurs such as a Vial not found event, there is no dialog box option presented to Retry/Abort. The sequence simply aborts. The error is shown in the sequence log of that instrument: 'Method Method started: (F) line# 2 at 2 inj# 1 09:11:51 09/20/07 67 41e0 46f27198 0 Method Instrument running sample Vial 2 (front) 09:11:52 09/20/07 0 1da5 46f271b2 300 GC 1 There was no bottle in the gripper. 09:12:18 09/20/07 0 1da6 46f271b2 0 Instrument GCI1 did not start a run 09:12:18 09/20/07 67 41e0 46f271b2 0 Method Instrument Error - Method/Sequence stopped 09:12:18 09/20/07 67 41e0 46f271b2 0 Method Method aborted 09:12:18 09/20/07 43e 41df 46f271b2 0 Sequence FRONTALS.S terminated due to an error 09:12:18 09/20/07' GC goes back to "ready" state instead, and vials remain in the position they were when the injector failed (not returned to tray).Temporary Solution:

Cryo Trap is a type of thermal aux zone which allows the user to set a trap temperature and to input run time events to turn the trap off and on. When the trap is off, the trap setpoint is set 10°C above the oven setpoint. When the cryp trap is set to on by a run time event the trap set point is set and cryp comes on immediately and upon reaching the setpoint will try to control. When the 7890 Edit Parameters screen is up, and the method uploaded the run time events are shown as AO Signal, not cryo trap. When this is down loaded it changes the runtime table and the trap does not work.Temporary Solution:
n/aFix Information:

The problem occurs when a 7693A Tray is installed and there is an injector in the Back and no injector in the Front. If a Sample Prep Program is created, the default values for a Move command are incorrect, and cause erratic behavior.Temporary Solution:
See Service Notes 7693A-002 and 7693A-002A for available patch which is used with the 2.12.040 driver.Fix Information:

Configure a 7890A with a single capillary column going from inlet to first channel of a PCM. There are no other columns/connections. Initial user interface shows a PCM channel in flow mode and setpoint of 0. Change the PCM to Pressure mode. The PCM's ramp loses its initial row and clicking on it results in an illegal index exception. Clicking on a different CFT element gives a null reference exception and the mode goes back to being flow.Temporary Solution:
n/aFix Information:

The analysis is run in constant flow mode. Configuration is one column to splitter with make up gas. Two restrictor tubes from splitter plate to 2 detectors. All 3 "columns" configured in flow mode. Backflush parameters are entered via the Chemstation and downloaded to the GC. It takes several attempts to download these parameters. After the run has finished the GC will go into Post Run but the pressure displayed on the GC inlet (S/S) is -14.696 psi. This cannot be achieved so the inlet will shut down.Temporary Solution:
If the columns are configured in pressure mode this error will not occur.Fix Information:
Fixed in B.04.02.
Methods from EZChrom 3.2.1 will not load on EZChrom 3.3.1Temporary Solution:

When a column has a length of 0.171 meters (the quickswap restrictor length), it caused the software to invoke the method resolution and lock-up every time you try to load a method. This appeared to be because the 7890 only stores 2 decimal places in the column length and the SW lets you set 3dp, so the method never matches the G.C. config.Temporary Solution:
n/aFix Information:
This problem is fixed in Software Driver Version: 3.01.
It is not possible to set the MMI Cryo type in the software. The type of gas the MMI cryo is using is not shown in method edit.Temporary Solution:

When errors occur when using the 7893A ALS, the messages that are sent to the logbook mean nothing to the user. Open Injector Door--returns Sampler Error #281 Turret Error - returns Sampler Error #222 Plunger Error - returns Sampler Error #243. The error messages should say exactly what has occurred that caused the run or sequence to stop.Temporary Solution:

When the 7890A goes into hydrogen safety shutdown the ChemStation shows "Front inlet flow shutdown" and other messages, but not "Hydrogen Safety Shutdown". The chemstation does not report the hydrogen shutdown but it does list the other causes. In addition, the heated zones can be turned on from the chemstation. Since a hydrogen shutdown should require operator intervention AT THE GC remote control from the (any) chemstation should be disabled.Temporary Solution:

The method custom report for a 7890 contains a configuration report and an Instrument Setup listing. There are several things wrong with the Front Inlet Listing. 1. The pressure units are psi. In the method the pressure units are kPa. 2. The Total Flow listing is 13 digits to the right of the decimal point. 3. The split flow is shown as 15 mL/min. I have no idea where this number comes from. 4. The Injection Pulse Pressure is shown. This would be OK if the Inlet mode was a pulsed mode, but it was not. It was a straight Split mode.Temporary Solution:

For a 7890A GC, if automation is used to get the minimum and maximum allowed values, 9.9E-314 is obtained for the minimum allowed value and 4.2E-314 for the maximum allowed value for Run Rime. For oven temperature 2.8E-292 is obtained for the minimum allowed value and 4.2E-314 for the maximum allowed value. These values are not correct.Temporary Solution:

For a 7890A GC, the initial oven temperature is changed using the automation toolkit. However, if trying to change the run time, nothing happens, even for an isothermal method. Either, the new time should be downloaded or a not-supported value should be returned.Temporary Solution:
n/aFix Information:

After auto configuration, configure the 7890A with the µECD to display pressure in kPa. Opened the instrument pressure and psi is displayed. This is incorrect behavior. Opening the instrument should have downloaded the preference to display pressure in kPa rather than psi. After some method modifications and saves the displayed pressure units changed to kPa.Temporary Solution:
n/aFix Information:
n/a
A pressure or flow program on the 7890A, the time for the total time last plateau value is the instrument’s run time rather than the pressure or flow’s time. This is incorrect. The pressure/flow’s total time should be displayed so the user can make any necessary adjustments if they want to have the pressure track the temperature ramp. At the bottom of the grid it says that the time will be limited by the run time maximum so the user knows that takes precedence.Temporary Solution:

Set up a sequence using methods that had associated sample prep methods. Ran the sequence, but one of the samples had a barcode mismatch. The error appears to be reported, but the vial is left in the turret. At the start of the next line, the sample prep program is executed prior to returning the vial. It that sample prep program uses the vial that was left in the turret or that turret position, it will error out with an uninformitive message: "Command to tray failed:TrayPrep Failure Code: 251: Err_HaveVial" Reurning the vial to the tray should be done prior to the sample prep program.Temporary Solution:

1) At the GC keyboard, Configure | Instrument: Turn Auto Prep Run on. Instrument goes into pre-run, and becomes ready. 2) Connect with driver. Connecting causes Auto Prep Run to turn off, but instrument is still in pre-run. Driver cannot download because it has never seen the instrument in the idle state. (There are messages in logbook about this.) 3) Attempt to start a run. System goes into "Waiting for ready" state forever. 4) To make the instrument become idle, I pressed the Stop key on the instrument keyboard. The instrument dropped out of pre-run; it went to the idle state. After a second or two, the "Waiting for ready" dialog box disappeared, the logbook reported that the driver had lost connection with the instrument. The GC went back into pre-run, and the driver reconnected and could loop in steps 3) and 4) indefinitely. 5) The GC could be used by pressing the STOP key on the instrument keyboard when the driver was not trying to start a run.Temporary Solution:

Running ChemStation B.04.02.96. Start a sequence with overlapped injection set to immediately after injection. While the sample is being delivered to the turret, the Park button is pressed on the 7693A Tray. After delivering the vial, the tray is put in the Park position and the Injector completes the injection. At this point the ChemStation is unresponsive. (For example, when the ChemStation is in this state, any report printed to the screen can not be closed.) The ChemStation responds after the Park button is pushed and vial is returned.Temporary Solution:

On Dual Simultaneous Injections (High Throughput), when the Back Signal Data is saved with the Front Sample and the front sequence tab is blank, a data file is created that cannot be viewed after the run although it was seen during acquisition. In such a case, the user should save the back signal data with the back sample. Do not associate a front or back signal data with a blank sequence tab.Temporary Solution:

7890A GC with dual injectors: A sequence of 3 lines with Overlap was submitted. The sequence was aborted in the middle of the second line (the next vials were being prepared, regardless of the time of the abort). The sequence aborted but the vials were left in the injectors. The vials should be returned to the tray after an abort.Temporary Solution:

Create a sequence using a method specifying sample overlap. If a non-initial vial is not found, the currently running sample will abort, the sequence will abort, and there will be only an error displayed in the logbook and GC Status.Temporary Solution:

The runs for both instruments specified Use Method for the injection volume. The volume shown on the LC’s method report is 4 µL, which is the method’s volume. The volume shown on the GC’s method report is 0 µL. This is incorrect. It should be either 5 µL (the method volume) or Use Method.Temporary Solution:

When configuring & runnig 7890A GC with 7693A + CTC connected and with instrument setup trigger injector source option "GC inj." It was not possible to run sequence & single run with sample Prep option. Sample Prep Program file option is missing in sequence Wizard & single run dialog. However, it is possible to run sample prep when using 7890A GC with 7693A only.Temporary Solution:

It is not possible to edit the start time for a GC signal to exclude the solvent peak (partial data collection function). This can not be done on the 7890A. This is needed because the solvent is so big it pushes the data peaks down to the baseline.Temporary Solution:
